Day 27 - A Foxie to light your way (or the day of the big weeding).
Day 27 - A Foxie to light your way (or the day of the big weeding).
Big numbers of day volunteers on site today (even more due tomorrow) and they were busy, busy, busy!
The weather was fine for most of the day at Foxlease Park and the sun was shining down on our volunteers outside as they worked hard to lift, shift and clear various places around the site. We had most volunteers working in teams of two to weed, clear and clean certain outside areas to take advantage of the fair weather and the front borders of Foxlease House and the outside area around The Coach House are looking much clearer, with unwanted growth, dead things and moss removed as appropriate.
We also had a fab team of volunteers working inside The Coach House for a further round of cleaning and leaf removal (putting the outside back outside) and another team moving things around the site to where they needed to be e.g. furniture to be disposed of, rubbish to be added to the Baby Skip and things to be removed from site. One of our volunteers took a lovely picture of the robin she befriended on site who followed her around during her weeding (see photos).
We had lots of visitors to site today too, using our new office meeting space, with more to come later this week. We're hoping to acquire some paint to repaint the space over the next few days too as our first on-site painting project so far.
We've used a number of our kindly donated vouchers donated through the Amazon Mountain project to replace the defunct (and very mouldy) plastic lanterns from the front of Foxlease House with some beautiful new metal and glass lanterns. We've gone for a non-integrated battery-powered candle option so those can be added and removed to avoid further degradation in bad weather but they'll be shining brightly on a porch near you shortly. We've added a separate photo montage of the assembly project and we promise no Foxies were harmed in the making - they were in the lanterns for a very short period for effect (Emma thought it would look cute for a photo, but as Paul pointed out it looks a bit like they're in tiny Foxie jail and put there to warn the other Foxies not to misbehave....we might stick to candles in the future....).
More well-behaved Foxies and volunteers tomorrow, Love Foxie x
