We've been really busy on site over the last few days with late nights and early mornings for most of the team and our next weekend of on site overnight bookings has just concluded successfully - as ever, it's lovely to see groups back on site, particularly in the sunny weather!
Since our last update we've had activity going on across the site - we've had emergency lighting replacement and renewal in some of the buildings and lots of annual checks. We've also had preparatory works to upgrade the electricity supply to The Barn to give us options for futher upgrades and to make sure that Carol has the power supply she needs.
We had a late evening delivery of the new upstairs cooker for the upstairs of The Lodge to upgrade that ready for future guests - we won't go into detail regarding the challenges of transporting a new cooker weighing 100kg up the stairs and the old one down them...but based on previous exploits elsewhere on site we're sure you can imagine....the end result was successful replacement of the cooker, yet to be named.
We had more sorting going on in the office, more preparation for our self-led activity boxes and absolutely mind-blowing support for items on our Wishlist - we're identifying new things all the time at the moment as we move onto the next phase of preparations to The Coach House and the activities provision on site.
The Gate House has a new hat on its chimney as we've had the chimney repaired and we've had a new drain cover installed in The Coach House Courtyard to make the olf put lid there safe. We've had significant progression of the preparation of our first four campsite huts - the painting at Nightingales has been finished and all being well Apple Trees will be tomorrow. Our volunteers have been working hard to reinstate the plumbing on the first 4 sites, ready for our boiler servicing in them this week coming, and also to repair the guttering, wood panelling (where needed) and to bird and insect proof to make the huts as shiny as they can be. We've got some retiling to do in one or two of the showers this week and we'll be installing some of our new flooring in the shower and toilet areas of the first few huts which, if it goes well, will allow us to replicate that across our other sites as they re-open. We've also checked and installed the water safety measures around the deep water areas ready for activity in those areas.
We had more clearance around the back of Foxlease House to clear that area and today the former wooden structure had further attention to relocate some of the plants and to remove the broken and damaged decking so that we can start addressing next steps to re-lay the decking and finalise that back area to the house ready for our upcoming spring events on the lawn, starting with our Mad Hatter's Tea Party Picnic. Photos of the clearance work to follow.
On Friday we hosted the New Forest National Park Authority's Education Forum in The Barn and we were delighted to meet the other members of the forum who were able to attend and to show them some of the site. No sooner had that group left on their site tour, then our friends at Sign-It arrived to install our new Foxlease Park sign in the Main Hall in The Barn (just in case any one forgets where they are...) and it looks fab!
We've had Mountains of new Amazon Mountains arrive and be unpacked, lights cleaned in The Coach House, paint scrubbed down, mattresses hoovered and covered. Inventory items prepared ready for stocking that kitchen and lots more!
We also spent Sunday plotting out the Site Map Design for our Community Mosaic Project and we're on good track to have that ready for our attendees at the upcoming Barn Dance to help us start on adding the tiles.
Hoping for more Spring Sunshine as our groundworks on site start tomorrow, Love Foxie x
