Day 8 - Foxie's First Post, as one door closes another one opens and shiny new toilet seats!
We checked the post box this morning and it was so exciting to find that we'd received our first post at Foxlease Park - and it wasn't a bill! It was a parcel from some of our supporters on the Island to keep our volunteers going. We're still carefully managing where our deliveries go, and taking donations to several different locations, but it was lovely to see post addressed to us in our new home.
We had some unexpected jobs on site this morning when one of the wooden doors decided that the damp didn't agree with it and was stuck closed....and remained that way despite all attempts to open it ranging from Emma asking it nicely to Iain giving it a solid kick. In the end we had to go a bit heavy duty on the situation and remove one of the panelled up walls over a pre-existing door to give us another entrance to the room, which then allowed us to open the stuck door and resolve the issue. The panel removed was in the longer term plan to come out in any case, just not quite yet! So, although unexpected, it was nice to be making some of the changes planned to move the site towards how we want it to be when we start to re-open next year.
The singing washing machine had its first rodeo with the curtains from the Accessible Suite and while they did end up being lovely and clean, it took a little longer than Hazel and Foxie planned due to the washing machine's rather unexpectedly lengthy ECO setting. When they checked in to see progress, they realised there were still some hours to go. We'll be checking the settings before the next load to make sure that we're not still washing curtains for the first time next Christmas!
Our fantastic volunteers today cleaned The Gatehouse for us and made great progress. Andy the boiler expert returned to continue his systems appraisal and instructions and we're making progress (although one of the thermostats thinks its in the Caribbean at the moment, which isn't ideal). We also fitted the first of the shiny new toilet seats from the Amazon mountain range of deliveries and it looks lovely and white and bright.
In wildlife update terms, the paths are slippery from the rain and the path has turned into the River Foxie, the blackbirds were having a lovely bath in the giant puddle in front of The Barn.
More things to clean tomorrow, Love Foxie x
