Day 69 - Water, water everywhere! (or Foxie's deep clean and the big count)
Day 69 - Water, water everywhere! (or Foxie's deep clean and the big count)
It's been a very wet day at Foxlease Park today and there is, quite accurately, water everywhere! Some of it inside where it shouldn't be, which has helped us to identify where perhaps new seals or draft excluders are needed but mostly outside and in most cases it's doing an excellent job of showing us where drains and gulleys which previously existed need to be re-dug and/or cleared so that the mini rivers across the site return to their intended flow. It's certainly been a blustery day for Foxie and the volunteers moving around the site - horizontal rain is no one's friend but the plants! We've had great progress with clearing the soakaway at the back of The Barn to take away all the water doing a reverse Kate Bush and running down that hill! We've also removed all the sharp screw points from the wooden bedframes and sealed in the screwheads sticking out of the bunk beds in the various buildings to be certain there are no possible scratches occuring.
We had volunteers Anna and Dott, who travelled a long way to be with us, professionally deep cleaning the oven downstairs in The Lodge and checking all the signage on the doors in The Lodge is free of paint smudges, sticky bits and looks super smart ready for our guests in a few weeks. Volunteer Corinne spent the morning taking the laminate flooring to task with some industrial degreaser and the upstairs kitchen is looking like a while different, fresher colour again. A general mop and then some protective sealer to go and then rinse and repeat in the other vinyl flooring rooms - we've added some serious cleaner stock to Foxie's Wishlist this evening to prepare us for the task!
In other news, we had some visitors to look around site who are considering booking with us and Foxie, Emma and Hazel have spent the evening checking what other wishes we need to add to the list to ensure the kitchens are fully inventoried and stocked across the site. We've also, this evening launched our first set of craft workshops to take place in March, with limited places, and more to follow soon!
We hope that Hilary's Simply Marquetry and Hard-backed Bookbinding will appeal to some as a way to pass a Tuesday or Thursday morning in March - details of all of our exciting upcoming events are available via Ticketsource: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/foxies-future
Hoping that we don't get blown away this evening in the strong winds on site, Love Foxie x
