Day 87 - The day before...(or what Foxie did!)
Day 87 - The day before...(or what Foxie did!)
The deer had a very chilled out day on the Link Field Campsites today in large numbers and the team were expecting a quieter day as it was deliberately low volunteer day but, instead, with our first booking tomorrow, we were busier than ever although with different timings to usual.
We had contractors to meet for final sign offs of our Legionella risk assessments for The Barn and The Lodge and a final bit of electrical works to finish the heating system. Paul spent a day moving things around the site in readiness for the weekend and also in mowing the lawn behind The Lodge ready for next week, with a speedy relaying of a paving slab near the car park to ensure the walkway is level and unbroken for those guests arriving to join us tomorrow.
With still lots to do, in a moment of Foxlease Park magic, Volunteers Neil and Sue, who arrived for their overnight stay before their first day volunteering tomorrow, arrived early evening and joined in the "finishing off" tasks left in The Barn - some larger than others. Sue got stuck in cleaning windows and helping Hazel to stock toilet rolls and hand soaps and Neil took on the heavier task of moving a huge bag of gravel to fill the end of Barn Drive following Paul's water removal earlier in the day (we don't have a photo unfortunately as he finished in darkness mid-evening, but we'll take one tomorrow).
Alongside that, Volunteer Catherine dropped by to deliver some things to the Site Office and ended up staying to not only give a further intensive mop to the Main Hall floor in The Barn, but also then to don coveralls and to join Emma and Volunteer Rosie in some late night painting of the kitchen in The Barn and we are SO grateful that she did as she saved a world of short people problems in reaching the highest parts of the room - some innovative paint brush extensions on broom handles were adopted to reach the highest places even with the height advantage and we definitely wouldn't have managed to do it all without her.
It's a late blog today as 4 hours of painting later and a pumpkin avoiding finish for the painters (with half an hour to spare before midnight - no Cinderella issues for Foxie) The Barn kitchen is done and looks wonderful in time for the morning.
Time for a lie down like Foxie in the photo, love Foxie x
