Day 89 - When Foxie's flag was flown (or Opening Day +1)
Another exciting day on site as Girlguiding's Hurst Castle Division descended upon the Barn in big numbers and the scavenger hunts, cheers and laughter around the site were the absolute best things ever to hear! They've kindly shared some photos with us to share on and it's definitely given us some great material for Foxie's "Wall of Adventures at Foxlease Park", as well as some ticking off to be done on our marshmallow/s'mores and campfire counting charts! We're also delighted to report that The Barn was so well used that it probably now needs a further clean - 160+ pairs of shoes will do that - but, fear not, because it's there to be used and very much still blue!
Before the masses arrived, we managed to raise Foxie's new special events flag - handmade by our Volunteers Christine and Mary just for us and the hours they spent sewing were worth it as it looked fabulous in the slight breeze today. We'll give the flag its own special moment another day soon with some other less "action" photos as it deserves it and we'd love to share the process but you can see the last minute finishing works in the photographs.
Alongside all that excitement we had some wonderful volunteers continuing work on site. The final coat was painted on the toilet doors of the outside toilet block and then work was started assessing and clearing the Nightingale Campsite Hut. It's in great shape, but has work to be done and now we have a good list of what that is and some of it was started today, with edging around the concrete to remove the overgrown grass and some gutter clearance, as well as the first provisional clean of the hut itself. We're looking forward to spending more time on the campsites alongside The Coach House now that The Barn and The Lodge are in action and mostly complete save for some minor further finishing works (like a second coat of paint in the kitchen at some point).
We also had an exciting parcel arrive with our campfire friends, available for indoor campfires (yet to be named), inside and they are so cute!
All in all a great day, onto Quiz Prep and the next things on the list tomorrow, Love Foxie x
