Day 90 - Kayaking in The Barn for Foxie? (Or contractors and coordinated chaos).
We're at Day 90 and wondering where the time has gone - it's flying by but then we stop and look and we can really see where that time has been spent.
Fresh off of a busy weekend of bookings, we were contractor-heavy on site this morning with more Legionella testing, some electrical works and some heating repairs and LOTS of volunteers doing all sorts of jobs, some planned and some unexpected (hence the coordinated chaos).
After its use at the weekend The Barn had a couple of areas needing attention, a minor radiator leak (radiator is due to be replaced) and a toilet leak too! It started small, but got bigger with investigation (Foxie could definitely have kayaked in there)...and then smaller following a successful repair. We're pleased to confirm it's back in action and no further indoor kayaking will be taking place. Less opportunity for outdoor kayaking too as Paul has been pumping away further water from the front of Barn Drive.
We had more water in the Main Hall of The Barn (deliberate this time) with intensive mopping of the floors and some sealing - Volunteer Corinne has been steadily working her through the floor cleaning supplies from Mt. Cleaning of the Amazon Mountain Range for us and we're getting there with sealing the beautifully clean floors everywhere to try to keep them that way.
Outside The Barn there was further work on the borders taking place - Volunteer Sue has advanced the battle to take back Barn Drive beyond the borders of the Basketball Court and she's winning! The Barn Kitchen was carefully counted and stocked ready for its upcoming bookings and it looks ready for action. Our curtain experts have moved on to the bedrooms in The Barn and they are nicely finishing off in there.
The Coach House has been assessed for painting and further works needed to allow us to programme them in over the next few weeks and we also moved out some of the old furniture in there which is no longer fit for purpose to make way for a re-jig of the Main Hall and some further deep cleaning as we move onto that building.
Two of the Lyndhurst Men's Shed were on site today working on the pillars at the front of Foxlease House and fitting in place some under-sink cupboard doors that they made for us in the Prep Room at The Lodge.
We had some more pot holes filled with scalpings up the first part of the main drive and also lots of the wood from the back of Foxlease House sorted and moved - a hard work day for our fantastic outdoor volunteers and we are very grateful.
We ended the day with a fab delivery of a new to us kitchen which, subject to some checking, we think will be planned in to refurbish the current kitchen in The Coach House - exciting times and we managed a bit of quiz preparation too!
Gutter clearance and repairs on some of the campsites tomorrow, Love Foxie x
