The day started soggy, and early, as we awaited Carol's arrival. Our volunteers got to their tasks across the site, with Volunteer Pete Pete (today just Pete as he was the only Pete on site) starting sealant replacement in The Barn bathrooms to make sure they are nice and fresh, Volunteer Gordon doing some rubbish clearance for us, and our sewing cohort setting up in The Barn Main Hall to work on the curtains in there. Volunteer Ian arrived to complete the boxing in of The Barn toilet following its recent repair and then moved on to prepping space in the kitchen for Carol's impending arrival.
The Bookings Team of two Volunteers were powering through more of our inbox enquiries and booking queries and making steady progess, and Volunteer Karen braved the rain to play in the mud or, rather, to continue tackling the area around the rear of Foxlease House following the removal of the woodpile there and she made steady progess there all day with great results. Pete then moved on to removing some of the broken hand sanitiser units from around the site for us and addressed some patch plastering in The Coach House stairwell (we'll update on success on that tomorrow).
We had contractors on site for heating and electrics, with some replacement lighting fitted in The Lodge (photos of those tomorrow), and measuring up for some replacement doors and windows. We gave our Ali Mac a spring clean with one of the hoover regiment. We all got generally rained on first thing and then the sunlight broke through and things got alot brighter.
And our movie moment of the day was when the phone call was received that Carol's car service was here (for which, read the DPD van) at the barrier. They were directed up to The Barn for her delivery and in a Marilyn Monroe-esque red stairs moment (think Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend in Gentlement Prefer Blondes) or perhaps something between that and the eighties PG Tips: Mr Shifter Commercial piano stairs moment....Carol the Cooker arrived and was safely delivered into the kitchen in The Barn ready for installation into the newly widened space (thanks Ian). Carol has been named by our wonderful fundraiser for that cooker, we understand in memory of a lady who was magic in the kitchen and so we hope Carol will help many a caterer deliver culinary magic at Foxlease Park too! She may eventually be removed to The Coach House but for now she is in The Barn where she is most needed and ready for action soon.
Happy 100 days-eve! It's a big milestone day for us tomorrow and we're looking forward to tackling more on the list, Love Foxie x
