Day 13 - Contractor Chaos and Foxie-sized high visibility clothing.
Day 13 - Contractor Chaos and Foxie-sized high visibility clothing.
It was a very busy day on site today with our highest number of volunteers in one day yet and, in a very exciting turn of events, the contractors arrived on site to start work on the heating and plumbing in The Barn - we can't wait for them to be done so that it is nice and cosy again!
Despite the best laid scheduling plans, everyone arrived at once on site, which would have been fine save for the contractor's third party delivery supplier deciding his van couldn't possibly drive through a puddle and instead getting it stuck on the grass in front of The Barn....(RIP grass for now). He was then stuck there for some time as Foxie wasn't in a position to be extracting him and the contractors weren't either, having many hours of heating works to do, and so he had to phone a friend for help. We're pleased to report he is now, presumably, ruining someone else's grass somewhere else following his departure, but at least he delivered the parts needed.
Alongside that minor chaos, we also had an arranged pest control visit to help us ensure that any unwanted little friends on site stay where they should be and not where they shouldn't and the estate agents looking to quote for our three properties arrived too - truly the most people on site Foxlease Park has seen so far since our ownership, and the most vehicles!
In practical progress news (although The Barn's heating is both important and a significant piece of work) Foxie donned high vis along with our fantastic on site volunteers today and they spent a morning working hard clearing the leaves and debris from around The Lodge and pressure-washing the path to ensure that it safe and that the access is clear and the progress looks amazing compared to the previously slime-covered path which was slippery enough in grippy hiking boots that it may as well have been an ice rink!
The contents of The Barn kitchen have been washed by our volunteer twins and returned shiny and clean and ready to be put back in cupboards once they are also cleaned following the current contractor works.
On the administrative side, the team have also been busy making lots of calls to obtain quotes for some of the other things needed soon, including waste disposal and, my goodness, is it expensive! We think we've found a solution to help us out with some local partners for general waste clearance but the cost of disposing of old mattresses and upholstery due to the current legislation is huge so unfortunately a rather large cost for us to manage.
As ever, the weather on site today was interesting and we had Foxie's First Rainbow! (see photo)
No further update on the Amazon Mountain range but we think Mt. Microwave will be arriving soon!
More busy times tomorrow, but hopefully less contractor chaos, Love Foxie x
