Day 49 - When Firefighter Foxie met the Lyndhurst Fire Station (or when great heights were reached!)
Lots of detailed work going on on site today by our volunteers and we had tree surgeons on site first thing cutting back around the Walled Garden Marquee - lots of other tree works planned, but those were the first to get us going on the maintenance side of things.
We then had teams of volunteers working hard in both The Barn and The Lodge for us doing all sorts of tasks to tick things off the to do list and The Lodge feels like we're now within touching distance of it being ready for its first occupants. With lots of gloss cleaning and painting taking place in there today, we think we'll hopefully be in a place where there are only very minor things left by the end of this week - fingers and paws crossed! We took a trip today to try to colour match the paint to finish it off and we had a special visit this evening (see below).
In The Barn we also had further activity, cleaning up some of the recent flood (which thankfully was nowhere near as bad as it could have been) lifting some broken tiles, ready for refitting when the new ones arrive (scheduled delivery was today so we'll be unboxing tomorrow) and sugar scrubbing some surfaces, along with lots of other important things ticked off the list.
We had further cleaning and clearing and some post-Christmas removal going on in front of Foxlease House thanks to some of our volunteers and this evening we've taken delivery of a number of wooden sleepers today which we hope to make use of in our Campfire Circle, a bargain find on GumTree, thanks to eagle-eyed Volunteer Gordon.
This evening we had a very special pre-arranged visit to Foxlease Park by Lyndhurst Fire Station who kindly agreed to bring their very big ladders and expertise working at height to help us remove the very high up curtains in the Main Hall of the Lodge and to clean waht reportedly seemed like 22 years' worth of dust and dead flies for us whilst they were up there. As you'll see from the photos, Firefighter Foxie also joined the fun. We're very grateful to them for giving their time to help us with a problem to high for us to handle and also for their advice on some practical fire safety matters for the site, which their attendance gave us a chance to discuss.
Delivery arrivals expected tomorrow, Love Foxie x
